Germany loans $144 million to Libyan rebels

*Germany is loaning Libya's opposition $144 million to help with the country's rebuilding and humanitarian needs, the German Foreign Ministry said on Sunday. Germany is granting the urgently-needed funds as a loan, because Muammar Gaddafi’s frozen assets cannot yet be released. Once the UN Security Council has unfrozen them, the loan will be paid back from Gaddafi’s wallet. Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle announced last month that Germany was recognizing the rebels' National Transitional Council as Libya's legitimate government.
