Als alter Irish-Folk-Fan kenne ich Mary Black schon seit 20 Jahren, als sie noch mit ihren Geschwistern und Eltern in der Black Family sang (nebenbei: weder optisch noch künstlerisch mit der Kelly Family vergleichbar). Danach war sie eine Weile bei De Danann. Sonderlich begeistert war ich noch nie von ihr, allerdings ist ihre Stimme mit zunehmendem Alter immer besser geworden. Dafür wurde die Musik auch immer seichter bzw. "mainstreamiger" und hat nicht mehr viel mit traditionellem Folk zu tun. Not my cup of tea, wie der Ire sagen würde.
Mein Lieblingsstück von Ihr ist die wirklich schöne Version von "Rose of Allendale" aus dem Jahr 1982 - Album heißt auch "Mary Black" und war, glaube ich, ihr Debüt als Solistin.
